Distributing MIDINotes

What is a MIDINote?

A MIDINote is a format used within Second Life to represent MIDI data, developed by MIRAI TECH. It allows musical notes and compositions created in MIDI software to be played directly in the Second Life environment. By converting standard MIDI files into the MIDINote format, users can share and perform their music in-world without needing to upload audio files, enabling more interactive and collaborative musical experiences.

Shareable vs Personal-Use MIDINotes

Shareable MIDINote

Shareable MIDINotes are designed for distribution, enabling other users to play the MIDI files. This makes them ideal for sharing music and compositions within the community.

Personal-Use MIDINote

Personal-Use MIDINotes are for individual use and cannot be played by others. Only the creator can play these MIDINotes, ensuring privacy and control over the content.

Converter and MIDINote Type

MIDINotes converted using the MIDINote Converter are always for personal use. To create shareable MIDINotes, you can use the MIDINote Premium Converter available under a monthly subscription.

Benefits of Shareable MIDINotes

  • Easy sharing with friends.
  • Expand your reach by selling in the Marketplace.
  • Allow others to enjoy your music.

How do I Distribute Shareable MIDINotes?

A MIDINote can be given out just like any other notecard. Notecard permissions will not impact playback, allowing you to set any permissions on the notecard for distributing to others.
